Dieting can be very confusing. As soon as your friends, family members, and co-workers find out that you are going on a diet, they will have all kinds of advice for you. People will start telling you what diets worked for them, what foods they heard and good, and tips and tricks that they have heard of in the past. If you are planning to go on a diet, you should do your own research and come up with your own diet plan. The first thing that you should know when you are dieting are the foods that you should avoid. Knowing what to stay away from is half the battle.
#1 Soy Sauce
Many people mistakenly use soy sauce to give their food flavor because it is low in calories. The reason that this is a mistake is because it is loaded with sodium. Not only will the sodium make you retain more water making you bloated, it will also increase your risk of high blood pressure.
#2 Multi-Grain Bread
Most people confuse whole grain bread and multi-grain bread. You might look at all of the seeds on top of the loaf and think about how healthy it must be. If it is not whole grain, it will be just as bad for you as white bread.
Alcohol can be detrimental to your diet. Most types of alcohol, even wine, are loaded with calories. When you drink, your body will burn the alcohol first. This means that you cannot burn any calories from food until your body gets rid of the alcohol. This can set your weight loss goals back greatly.
#4 Whole Milk
Whole milk is loaded with fat and calories. If you are on a diet, you should stick to skim milk, low-fat milk, or fat-free milk. If you switch to one of these types of milk, you can still enjoy it without the added calories.
#5 Tropical Fruits
People who are dieting and have a sweet tooth often substitute cookies and candy with fruit. While fruit is a great substitution for sweets, you have to choose the right fruits. Tropical fruit, such as pineapples and mangoes are bad choices because they are loaded with natural sugars which are not good if you want to reach your weight loss goal.
#6 Store Bought Fruit Juice
Many people believe that since a piece of fruit is great for their diet, high fatthat a glass of fruit juice will be good as well. This isn’t true. The fruit juice that you buy in a carton at the supermarket is loaded with sugar and empty calories. If you really want a glass of fruit juice, you should stick with freshly squeezed fruit juice.
Grapes are very healthy and they are low in calories. They are also easy to eat. If you are going to eat grapes, however, you should put them in a salad or combine them with protein. This is because they are high in sugar. This can make you crave more sugary snacks which is unhealthy and bad for your diet.
#8 Seasoning Salts
If you are planning on having fresh fish and brown rice for dinner, it is a great diet choice. It is no longer a good choice, however, when you cover it in seasoning salts. These are very high in sodium, which can make you retain water, making you look and feel bloated. Just a sprinkle of sea salt is all you should use.
#9 Salad Dressing
Many people who are dieting order salads for lunch and dinner because salad is very healthy. Ordering a salad will be a complete waste, however, if you drown the shigh-fat salad dressing. Even low-fat dressing is high in calories. If you are going to order a salad, you should use olive oil as a dressing. It is low and calories and of all the oils available, the body can burn olive oil the fastest.
#10 White Foods
White foods, such as bread, rice, potatoes, and pasta are all loaded with carbohydrates and saturated fats. If you want your diet to be successful, you should replace these foods with wheat bread, brown rice, sweet potatoes, and whole wheat pasta. If you substitute these foods with healthier options, you have a better chance of losing weight.
If you know what foods to avoid, you have a better chance of losing weight. Foods that you think are healthy actually might not be. It is best to do your own research regarding your diet rather than listening to advice from other people.
